Yere Dzikan
(Oct 23-Present)

Yere Dzikan is a charity set up to support young women as they transition from high school to employment, university or entrepreneurship. The charity works in partnership with schools to deliver a programme of guidance, mentorship and support. I have been commissioned to design a website for the charity to build awareness and serve as an information source for programme participants (students and their school leaders), sponsors, funders and potential funders and regulating authorities in the territories in which the charity operates or raises funds (currently Ghana and London).

Step 1: Requirements

I first familiarised myself with the charity's requirements. These were as follows:

  • A home page – imagery; links to - apply to our programme, donate

  • Our programme – information for applicants - overview of the projects and how to apply

  • About Us – a statement of purpose; who the charity is - profiles of the NGOs directors; how the charity is run –  sources of finance and funding;  policies and practices; profiles of the patrons

  • Get involved – information for sponsors and donors and patrons – how they can support

Step 2: Site map

I developed a site map in Figma to establish the structure of the website

Step 3: Wireframing

I developed a set of low-fidelity wireframes based on the site map in Figma. These wireframes were presented to the charity directors for their approval/feedback.

Step 4: Tree testing

I then conducted tree testing to assess the planned information architecture of the website. The tree tests were conducted online on Optimal Workshop. Whilst one participant achieved an 100% success rate, another achieved 80%. For the task 'Find where you would sign up to be a patron of the charity', the participant originally started on the 'correct' path, but then backtracked and decided to go to the 'About Us- Patrons' section. This highlighted an opportunity to  to add a 'Sign up to be a sponsor' button in the 'About Us- Patrons' section.

Step 5: Website development

The first draft of the website is currently being developed in Wix (as of June 2025). It will undergo usability testing and iterations; details of this will be provided in due course. Watch this space!
